SUNDAY RIDE MAP PROCEDURE. In the past, club volunteers have
shown up with route maps to hand out to riders on Sunday Rides. The
general procedure is different this year in that we are asking ride
participants to print their own Sunday ride map. Go to the
ClevelandTouringClub.org website on Saturday night and print the map.
The printout will have two maps on a single page; please bring the extra
map and share with people who might not have internet access.
TUESDAY RIDES
Looking for some new faces on this ride – there’s more to CTC than treks
up and down River Road. Tuesday’s ride has a little different flavor
than the other mid-week rides. Terrain is flat to rolling with a
moderate to brisk pace, and riders tend to stick together throughout the
ride. This is a good night to practice paceline and group riding
tactics. Route planning is a little tricky since many roads are still
closed from last year’s flooding rains. Thanks to Bruce and Craig for
this extra burden in their weekly plans to accomodate unknown road
conditions.
WEDNESDAY RIDES
Steve DiVincenzo reports that a group of daring riders on the 6:30pm
Wednesday ride challenge each other in uphill sprint at Lander Road,
dubbed the “Todd Hill Challenge”. Winners receive a flag to keep for the
week and passed on to the next week’s winner. Todd Palmer was the week 1
winner on May 2nd. Congratulations Todd.
THURSDAY RIDES
Maps are available via email prior to ride start. Simply send an email
to Mike Schmidt (mschmidt@lokring.com) to be put on the email
distribution list. Address Mike Schmidt/Subject Thursday Night Rides.
Attendance is on the rise and it is refreshing to see some new faces.
For two consecutive weeks, nearly 30 riders have shown up. With this
many riders, you’re bound to find someone that’s going your speed.
Thanks to all the new riders and we hope you continue to come back and
join us!
SATURDAY RIDES
Rides at North Chagrin at 8:30 or Todd Field in Willoughby (softball
field parking lot) at the intersection of Erie and Mentor Rd at 8:00.
N.Chagrin rides are pick-up with group determining pace & destination.
Todd Field has mapped rides with specific training objectives. Until
Sunday In June endurance building is stressed, culminating in a 90-mile
out-and-back trek to Peninsula the week prior. Post SIJ, emphasis will
be on building speed. Contact Mike Schmidt (see above) for details.
CALLING ALL TANDEM RIDERS. The club has added three new Saturday
Tandem Rides scheduled for May 26, June 30 and August 11. The terrain
is relatively flat and the speeds are a little higher. However, if you
are on a single bike, you are welcome to participate.
SUNDAY IN JUNE, June 10, 2007. Mark your calendar! The 31st Annual
Sunday in June will be held in Burton again this year. The tour offers
routes 25, 50, 62 & 100 miles. As a club member you can register for
the ride for $11 – a real bargain. Early registration closes May 22, so
don’t delay, register today! We are looking for a few dedicated
volunteers to help out with SIJ. If you would like to volunteer, please
call Bill Maurey at 440.975.9744; your help is appreciated.
CLUB DIRECTORY. Did you ever wish you could contact someone in
the club, but you don’t have a phone number or an e-mail? We are
putting together a directory this year and everyone who wishes to have
their contact info in the directory, please indicate this with your
registration form. The Directory shall be kept confidential and will be
used only by club members.

WEEKNIGHT CYCLING by Michael Schmidt
- Don't let the club's name
fool you...The club's primary focus is and will continue to be
recreational/touring
cycling. However, there is a little bit of everything available on our
weekday
rides, from beginner level to Category 3/4 racing. Beginner riders or
those just
out for the sake of riding may want to try the Wednesday 7pm ride out of
N.Chagrin (also great for tandem riding!). On all three nights, the
group tends to
separate out into three general speed classes from 14~20mph. Tuesday
routes
tend to be the fastest of the week with "A" group pacelines holding
speeds in the
mid-upper 20s. Thursday routes tend to be a bit hillier, with variety to
keep
everyone challenged!
New for this year on Thursday is a hill climb time-trial series that
will run from
May through September. Participant's times will be recorded and a
handicap
developed for the series end championship race. Even if you are not the
strongest climber, this gives you a chance to compete head-to-head with
the
big dogs! Prizes to be awarded at the season end.
THURSDAY NIGHT RIDE MAPS
Thursday night riders can receive maps via email prior to ride start. Simply send an email to
Mike Schmidt (mschmidt@lokring.com) to be put on the email distribution list.
Address Mike Schmidt/Subject Thursday Night Rides.
